The Somali Integration Society (SiS) was established in 2000 as a voluntary support agency in response to growing needs amongst the Somali Community for support and guidance on a wide range of everyday life issues. SiS aim is to help the Somali community to rely on themselves.
As the name suggests a key aim is to facilitate the integration of the Somali community in Wales, and consequently to improve the life prospects of Somalis in Wales.
This year is a very important time in the history of SiS and indeed for the wider Somali and refuge community in Wales as the work of SiS has been recognised by the Home office and the Welsh Assembly Government. SiS will be employing two people on a full time basis and another two part time workers by early next year.
SiS has recently held a very successful event at Cardiff County Hall in which took part by very high profile figures such as the Lord Mayor of Cardiff and the Assistant Chief Constable of South Wales Police. The event was designed to promote a better understanding of the needs of the Somali communities living in Wales. It presented the delegates with an opportunity to know more about the Somali culture.
